Leadership Beliefs
- Create a supportive environment: loyal and supportive of colleagues, genuine team player, an infectious example to peers; once a policy is set or a political quarrel decisively settled, cease opposition and get on board.
- Use of open, honest, and direct communication: to shrink from stating the true facts to the public is a mistake, without transparency, there is no trust.
- Commitment to a cause: ability to cause positive change by looking at the world with clear eyes, be transparent and stand for what is right.
- Manage all agreements: manage relations with others and be clear on commitments while working to keep the ones made.
- Decisive: ability to stick to one’s gut and step up to make decisions, rather than wait for others to take charge.
- Stay focused and be prepared: Productivity can be delivered by remaining calm amid commotion and crisis, never to be in a hurry as hastiness can dilute concentration, disrupt priorities, and make it impossible to follow a consistent method of work.
- Hold a proper attitude: Optimism is key to the “can-do” attitude essential to successful leadership. I am one of those who believe our growing community is only going to get better and we can be a part of the change.
- Be self-monitoring: An important part of success is acceptance of self-criticism. Seek feedback and advice from peers, citizens, and yourself. Most importantly take corrective actions to improve.
